Lennard Taylor began his fashion career in Winnipeg, Manitoba after returning home from a tour of Europe to explore his dream of becoming a soccer star. But that dream was short-lived by an injury to his knee. He knew Winnipeg, his home city, was where he was going to make a name for himself.
His talent blossomed with apprenticeship and career guidance from several industry professionals including Bob Silver and Michael Silver of Silver Jeans. Winnipeg was an ideal place for Lennard hone his skills; as it is still home to fashion industry giants like Peter Nygard, and Freed & Freed international.
In 2014, Lennard participated in the Mercedes Benz Start-Up contest where he was noticed by Robin Kay (President of the Fashion Design Council of Canada) and Marissa Freed (President of Freed & Freed International). Marissa took an interest in Lennard and offered him a position with her international company, Freed and Freed. While Lennard loved working with Freed & Freed, his brand recognition continued to grow with new opportunities.
In May of 2015, he opened a boutique in downtown Winnipeg to test his products on the price conscious Winnipeg market. His flagship boutique is still in operation today, located at 246 McDermot Avenue in the Historic Exchange District of Winnipeg. He continues to grow the business with the help of his older sister, Laural who manages the operation while he pushes the boundaries of his design.
With Fashion Revolution Week quickly approaching in Edmonton, we wanted to learn more about who makes Lennard Taylor's clothing! Read more below:
"So much more goes into the making of a piece from Lennard Taylor’s collection than our clients can fathom. After the piece has been conceptualized and designed and the pattern has been painstakingly perfected, Lennard travels to textile trade shows around North America to hand select quality fabrics and prints for each season. Once the fabric makes its way to Winnipeg, each piece is hand-sewn, with great attention to detail and quality, by one of seven Lennard Taylor employees who are all paid a living wage for their talent.
When you buy a piece from Lennard Taylor’s collection you have our guarantee that you are buying a unique, Canadian-made, quality garment. As our company grows and expands we will continue to strive to make your Lennard Taylor favourites in the same way that we do today because people and quality matter to us."
